We ran this test on suse9.2 rc2,2.6.8-22-default kernel, IBM R50.

steps:
1, % modprobe ipw2100
   % iwconfig eth1 essid <ESSID>
   % iwconfig eth1 key <KEY>
   % iwconfig
   we can see the noise level is -256 dBm.
2, take the laptop some where else.
   % iwconfig
   we can see the noise level is still -256 dBm.
   This seems to happen as long as the association is not lost.

Confirmed with my X31 and ipw2100-0.56 and 0.57.

Verified that the noise level is now always set to 0 (in build 0.60)

In 0.61, the noise level is not showed.

Could the firmware be modified to make the noise level reading available to the
driver - or is this a hardware limitation?
