Description From 2007-01-21 20:53:08
I'm running Fedora Core 6 on a Dell XPS M1710 (intel core 2 duo 2.33 GHz + 2 GB
RAM + 512 MB nVidia). I installed all of the rpm's from ATrpms for the latest
802.11 as well as the ipw3945 firmware/driver/daemon). What I notice is that
things are fine for a little while (the wifi light is on steady-state) then
bingo! the LED starts blinking and I end up losing my wifi. According to the
kernel messages there is a firmware software error (but God only knows
where/why). One extra piece of info - this shiny new XPS laptop just arrived a
few days ago, and as always it's pre-installed with WindowsXP (tm), so I
installed my FC6 on to a USB hard drive (FireLITE 80 GB).

Follows are the various log outputs...

Try new uCode (see attachment on bug #1085). With luck, that might fix your
problem.

If still a problem, try running (with new uCode) with driver load
parameter "debug=0x43fff" ... new uCode should output an event log file that
we can look at for more detail ... old uCode won't do that.

FYI, attachment on bug #1085 is labeled "Preliminary uCode to fix tuner
problem".

------- Comment #7 From 2007-01-22 19:16:17 -------
I tried the ucode from bug-1085 as suggested. The stability seems to be much
better as I did not seem to lose link or encounter the same error message from
before. However, I am noticing severe throughput degredation. I ran a
speedtest.net on both the wifi with the new ucode and again after downing the
wifi and using my hardwired ethernet...

Ex A: Speedtest on wifi (new ucode):
http://www.speedtest.net/result/77381749.png

Ex B: Speedtest on hardwired ethernet:
http://www.speedtest.net/result/77383016.png

Also attaching new dmesg output...

ipw3945 as a driver has been replaced by iwl3945 in official kernel for a long
time. We suggest to use iwl3945 driver instead of the obsolete ipw3945 driver.
If you have bug, please report it with product=iwlwifi and platform="Intel(R)
Wifi Link 3945". Thanks so much!
